Practice Case: 0/5 moves

Nothing here expires. Skipped the tour six weeks ago? It's here. Want to re-run a lesson before court? It's here. This page is the product's training wing — not a first-run popup.

The guided tour

10 spotlight steps over the live UI — the briefing, a case worked end to end, the unit dashboard, import, and the Registry. Resumable, skippable, repeatable.

The Practice Case — TUT-101

A case that doesn't count, wired to five checkpointed moves. Learning is doing, not watching.

○ Read the Thread○ Catch the discrepancy○ Argue with yourself○ Prove it○ Ship it
The First Import Drill

The confirmation station, on a practice file from a real case. Keep what's real, catch what only looks real, make one person one record — then take the debrief. About 3 minutes, and practice leaves no record.

▶ The Replay — watch a detective work the corpus

Apprenticeship, not documentation: the app drives itself through a case — real screens, real clicks, narrated. Take over anytime.

The Contradiction · 1 min · A folder becomes a case theory — and catches a 47-minute lie.
The Alibi That Held · 1 min · The initial suspect — cleared by his own timecard.
The Scorpion Thread · 1 min · Two cases, two detectives, different shifts — one alias.
Field guides — one per view, each with a live example
The Threadthread

The living timeline. Every event carries a certainty band — exact, approximate, or claimed — because the defense lives in the gap between 12:20 and 12:21.

The move: Click any citation chip. The exact source page opens, highlighted. That interaction is the whole product philosophy.

Show me → See the 23:12 telematics anchor
The Webweb

Every person, vehicle, phone, and address — and how they connect. Deterministic layout: it looks the same every time, so you build spatial memory.

The move: Click a node to see every span that mentions it. Filter by type when the graph gets dense.

Show me → Find the gray Nissan
The Ledgerledger

Every contradiction, with both sources side by side. Conflicts surface automatically as material arrives — before the defense finds them.

The move: Open a card, read both sources, then mark it explained or resolved. State changes are recorded.

Show me → The 9:00 vs 9:47 card
The Boardboard

Elements of the offense vs. the evidence that proves them. Empty rows glow — that is what "beyond a reasonable doubt" still needs.

The move: Press "Test this theory". CaseThread argues against you: competing hypotheses, bias alarms, and the defense's cross — before trial does it for real. It runs on every case.

Show me → Test the working theory
The Queuequeue

Graded leads with owners, due dates, and expiry countdowns — plus the Legal Process Desk tracker. Nothing expires quietly.

The move: Watch the red dates. A preservation letter today beats a subpoena for deleted data next month.

Show me → The camera that overwrites 06/28
The Vaultfiles

Immutable originals with cryptographic fingerprints. The platform never alters evidence — it only references it.

The move: Open any document and check the SHA-256 in the footer. That hash is why "we welcome the subpoena."

Show me → Open the evidence vault
The Copilotinterviews

A plan before, optional prompts during, and a deviation table after — every change between statements, timestamped and cited. Never labeled "deception"; that judgment is yours.

The move: Read the deviation table, then the missed-questions list — the follow-up is almost always possible.

Show me → The time-drift deviation
The Packetpacket

One consistent, complete, defensible handoff. The completeness gate blocks release while elements are open or contradictions unreviewed — that gate is Brady diligence.

The move: Check the readiness meter in the case header anytime — each segment links to what is failing.

Show me → Why this packet is blocked
Constellationconstellation

The same case graph in 3D — time as depth, contradictions pulsing red. Built for briefing rooms. Everything here exists in 2D first; print always comes from 2D.

The move: Press C from anywhere in a case. Drag to orbit. Press "Back to 2D" to work.

Glossary — the department's vocabulary
Verified fact
Independently corroborated by at least two sources or physical/digital evidence. The only label that counts as "proven" in the Elements Matrix.
Officer observation
What a sworn officer personally saw, heard, or did — cited to their report.
Witness statement
What a witness said. It is a record of the statement, not a finding that the statement is true.
Suspect statement
What a subject said. Deviations between statements are surfaced, never labeled as lies.
Physical / Digital evidence
An item or record in evidence, cited to its log entry and custody chain.
Allegation
A claim by a party that is not yet corroborated.
Inference
A reasonable conclusion drawn from cited facts — labeled so it can never masquerade as one.
AI-generated hypothesis
A possibility CaseThread proposes for a human to test. Never evidence. Never asserted.
Unresolved
Surfaced, but neither corroborated nor eliminated. Lives in Missing Pieces until it moves.
Closed by arrest
Perpetrator identified, arrested, and charged.
Exceptionally cleared
Perpetrator known but arrest impossible (e.g., deceased). Requires a documented justification.
No further action
All investigative measures exhausted and the matter is concluded — the case is closed.
Unfounded
Investigation determined no crime occurred.
Open — pending/suspended
Every obtainable lead exhausted, but the case stays OPEN. Never auto-closed — this protects the case decades later.
Sentinel
The cross-case watch. It reads every new report against your other open cases — and your cold ones — and raises a card when the same alias, phone, vehicle or method turns up twice. A card is a candidate, not a conclusion: you accept or refuse it, and it records which.
Devil's Advocate
The part of CaseThread that argues against you: competing theories scored against the evidence, a bias alarm, and the cross-examination the defense would run. It runs on every case — you cannot switch it off, because a tool you can switch off proves nothing.
Brady
Brady v. Maryland — the State must disclose evidence favourable to the defence. In practice: an open contradiction, a weak identification, or a gap you know about is material you have to hand over. It is why this product surfaces its own doubts instead of hiding them.
SAO
State Attorney's Office — the prosecutors. They file the charge; you classify the offence. An "SAO profile" is what that office prefers to see in a packet.
The cold shelf
Cases that went open-pending and stopped moving — not closed, just waiting. CaseThread ranks them by what could actually move today (evidence that can be retested, a witness whose loyalties have aged out) and shows its arithmetic.
Telematics
The data a modern vehicle reports about itself — position, ignition, power. When it stops reporting, that last position is a place you can stand in.
Certainty bands
EXACT = sourced timestamp. APPROXIMATE = estimate. CLAIMED = uncorroborated single statement. The defense lives in the gap between 12:20 and 12:21 — so certainty is always visible.
